Boys in Care. Men Beyond Care.

  • Association for Male Health and Wellbeing Belvedere Road Taunton, England, TA1 1BT United Kingdom (map)

Members Masterclass (Hosted by the Association for Mental Health and Wellbeing)

MANUP? will be part of this April Masterclass, focused on boys in the care system and the long-term impact on men.

Dan (Founder, MANUP?) will be speaking from lived experience. Growing up in care and now working with men across the UK, he still hears the same stories being repeated more than 20 years later.

Different setting. Same outcomes.

Care experience is one of the strongest predictors of future mental health challenges, social exclusion, addiction, and contact with the justice system. Yet many conversations about it still miss the reality of what boys go through and what men carry with them long after.

This session will challenge that.

What will be covered?

  • What life in care can actually feel like for boys

  • Why those experiences don’t just disappear in adulthood

  • The patterns still showing up in men today

  • What needs to change in how we listen to and support care-experienced men

Speakers

  • Chris Wild, Author of The State of It and national campaigner on care issues

  • Dan Somers, Founder of MANUP?

  • Additional speakers to be confirmed
