rethinking modern masculinity

Sorting Your Head Out
Your mind can be your best mate or your loudest heckler. When thoughts loop, sleep vanishes and motivation tanks, it is time to sort your head out. This men-only hour is fully funded by MANUP?—no cost, no paperwork, no need to share your full name.

Family can be the place you feel safest or the pressure cooker that blows your fuse. This men-only session is fully funded by MANUP?, so cost is never a barrier and you can join without giving your full name.

Castles of Conquest: 90-Mile Bike Ride Through North Wales
We are thrilled to support the Castles of Conquest—a 90-mile cycling challenge taking place on 27th July 2025. This exciting ride will see participants travel through North Wales, combining physical endurance with a deeper mission: breaking the stigma surrounding men’s mental health.

MANUP? TALKS SESSION 11: MEN & BEREAVEMENT WITH EFREM BRYNIN (StrongMen)
Join us for a profoundly impactful online session with Efrem Brynin from StrongMen, a charity dedicated to supporting men through bereavement.

MEN & THERAPY
Therapy still scares many blokes. Too expensive, too fluffy, or for people who are “really ill”. This men-only session is fully funded by MANUP?, so you pay nothing and can join with your camera off or first name only.

Men & ADHD: Why the Silence?
Why do so many men keep quiet about ADHD even when life feels out of sync? Thomas Woodhams is a highly respected talent scout and National Diversity Award nominee who speaks openly about his own late diagnosis and the hurdles men face at work and at home. In this MANUP? Talk he will lift the lid on the silence.

What does it mean to be a man in 2025 when the goalposts move every day? This men-only session is paid for by MANUP?, so there is no cost and you can join with a first name only.

Responsibilities as a Man
Bills to pay, people to support, alarms that never respect weekends. When responsibility feels like a rucksack full of bricks it can be tempting to stay under the duvet or hide behind a pity party. This men-only session is fully funded by MANUP?, so there is no charge and you are welcome to join with your camera off or first name only.

Why Men Die by Suicide V2
We’re welcoming back the speaker who launched our very first MANUP? Talk. Dr Susie Bennett returns with an updated session exploring how difficult childhood experiences can shape a man’s mental health and why too many men still die in silence.

Being a Dad
Fatherhood can be the best role you will ever hold, yet being away from your children through shift work, divorce or distance can rip holes in your identity. This men-only session is fully funded by MANUP?, so cost is never an issue and you can join with your camera off or first name only.

Anxiety in man
A surge of nerves can sharpen your focus and keep you safe. The same surge can also grind you down, steal sleep and convince you that disaster is around every corner. This men-only session is fully funded by MANUP?, so there is no cost at all and you may join with your camera off or a first name only.

Men and Relationships
Closeness should feel good, yet for plenty of men it is where anger, jealousy or shutting-down first show. In this men-only hour James Elliott MSc digs into the hidden pressures that can poison a relationship long before a row starts – fear of failure, money worries, being “the strong one”.

MANUP? Men’s Group at Sugar House Island
We were asked to front a men’s group on the 17th May, as part of Sugar House Island’s week-long Mental Health Awareness Week programme, running Monday, 12 May to Sunday, 18 May. On the Saturday, it is just us, Dan and Jack, sitting down with whoever turns up, to talk about the stuff lads usually keep to themselves

MANUP? Visting Sizewell C
MANUP? is heading to Sizewell C, the new nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast, after an invitation from its Maintenance Department to run two private on-site sessions. Male-dominated environments can be the hardest places to speak openly about mental health. Our goal is to get men talking while showing colleagues, partners and managers what stops a man from engaging in the first place.

MANUP? Sessions: SOCIAL PREJUDICES
This men-only session, hosted by James Elliott (MSc), will explore the science behind habits, why some stick while others fail, and how to rewire your routine to support the life you actually want. No motivational fluff—just practical, evidence-based ways to build better habits that actually last.

In this session, James Davies will break down the shifts in a man's life—stress, values, purpose, andropause—without the usual “midlife crisis” clichés. This isn't about fast cars or impulse decisions. It’s about understanding why things might feel different and what we can do.

Real Talk at the Barley Mow
We’re taking over the Barley Mow (cheers, Micheal!) for an evening that’s not about buzzwords or hashtags—it’s about blokes talking, properly.

This men-only session, hosted by James Elliott (MSc), will explore the science behind habits, why some stick while others fail, and how to rewire your routine to support the life you actually want. No motivational fluff—just practical, evidence-based ways to build better habits that actually last.

Pop-up Talk Show – Ipswich
"I’ll be talking about the stigma that still clings to men’s mental health, the desperate need for proper male role models, and why we must show men they’re wanted before the damage is done. This isn’t about 'fixing men' – it’s about fixing a culture that tells them to stay silent."

MANUP? at OVERWHELM – A Live Theatre Event & Q&A
MANUP? has been invited to join OVERWHELM, a powerful theatre production that explores addiction, co-dependence, and online radicalisation—hard-hitting topics that too often go unspoken.

MANUP? Talks #8: Why Men Won’t Talk to the Boss
We keep hearing “men need to talk more,” yet many bosses whinge that their male employees never come forward with problems. Here’s a wake-up call: men are talking—they’re just not talking to you. Maybe it’s not the men who need to change; maybe it’s the environment they’re in. Harold Floyd from Elite Force Safety will call this out head-on, exposing why men often bypass the boss and who really needs to step up if we want genuine openness around mental health in the workplace.

MANUP? Sessions: MALE SUICIDE
This men-only session, hosted by James Elliott (MSc), will explore the real reasons why so many men struggle with suicidal thoughts and what actually helps—not just for those going through it, but for their mates, family, and support networks. There’s no judgement, no lectures—just a space where men can talk, listen, and learn how to help themselves or someone else before it’s too late.

MANUP? Sessions: EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
This men-only session, led by James Elliott (MSc), will explore what emotional intelligence really means and how it can help you in relationships, work, and life. You’ll walk away with practical tools to help you manage emotions, understand what triggers certain reactions, and build resilience in the face of stress.

Conversations in Liverpool Street – MANUP?
We’re coming back to Liverpool Street.
Following the impact of our last visit, we’re hitting the streets again—no stage, no microphones, just raw, real conversations.

MANUP? Sessions: UNDER PRESSURE
In this men-only session, James Elliott (MSc) will break down why we experience pressure, how it affects our mental resilience, and what practical steps we can take to stop it from overwhelming us. This is not about ‘coping mechanisms’ or toxic positivity—it’s about understanding what’s really happening in your mind and body when you’re under stress and how to handle it before it takes control of you.

Identity and Personality
Who are you beyond the roles you play – father, partner, friend, employee? This session focuses on exploring identity and personality, helping men get a clearer sense of who they are at their core.

Why Don’t Men Talk About Domestic Violence and Abuse?
Domestic violence and abuse affect countless men, but the silence surrounding their experiences often leaves them without the support they need. Why don’t men report abuse or speak out? What barriers prevent them from seeking help?

Stoicism (Self-Control)
In a society where reactions are often instant and emotions run high, practising self-control can feel like an uphill battle.

Stress Management
Stress is a universal challenge, but men often face unique pressures that can make managing it especially tough. In this session, led by James Elliott (MSc), we’ll dive into practical techniques for recognising, managing, and ultimately reducing stress.

Conversations in Liverpool Street (MANUP?)
Join Dan Somers from MANUP? and Jez from MCM Creative, who take them to Liverpool Street to ask men about their mental health.
This event isn’t just about capturing content for social media. It’s about staying connected to the real voices and experiences of men. By asking strangers on the street, we get raw, unfiltered answers that remind us why we’re here—to listen and to learn.
We’ll be hovering around Liverpool Street Station in London. If you see us and want to chat, please do say hello. We’d love to hear from you!
Follow us on social media to see the powerful stories we uncover.

Other People's Mental Health
