Anxiety in man

  • MANUP? (Zoom) Crockatt Road Ipswich, England, IP7 6RH United Kingdom (map)

A surge of nerves can sharpen your focus and keep you safe. The same surge can also grind you down, steal sleep and convince you that disaster is around every corner. This men-only session is fully funded by MANUP?, so there is no cost at all and you may join with your camera off or a first name only.

Therapist James Elliott MSc explains how the male body’s fight-or-flight switch was built for sabre-toothed tigers, not deadline emails and mortgage rates. You will learn the difference between helpful, short-burst anxiety and the chronic kind that wrecks health. We look at the physical loop where rapid breathing fuels more panic, and why caffeine, alcohol and scrolling at 2 a.m. can shove you further into the red.

You will build a three-level toolkit:

  • Instant calm techniques such as box breathing, muscle release and the five-senses reset.

  • Daily maintenance habits that clear adrenaline, including micro workouts, daylight targets and sleep anchors.

  • Call in the cavalry signals that show self-help is no longer enough and it is time to reach for professional support.

Ask questions, type in chat or just listen. Every man leaves with a printable action plan, a log to track triggers and recovery, and links to helplines that answer around the clock.
