Being a Dad

  • MANUP? (Zoom) Crockatt Road Ipswich, England, IP7 6RH United Kingdom (map)

Fatherhood can be the best role you will ever hold, yet being away from your children through shift work, divorce or distance can rip holes in your identity. This men-only session is fully funded by MANUP?, so cost is never an issue and you can join with your camera off or first name only.

Therapist James Elliott MSc starts by naming the mix of guilt, anger and powerless fear that many dads hide. We look at the stories men tell themselves, such as “real fathers live under the same roof” or “working nights means I miss everything”, and how those beliefs deepen the ache.

The practical section focuses on staying present when miles or court orders get in the way:

  • Emotion check-in that keeps you calm before a video call or contact hand-over

  • Creative contact ideas, quick games and shared-screen moments that work at any age

  • Co-parenting communication tips to lower conflict with an ex while protecting the kids

  • Resilience plan that includes fitness, mates and professional help so you stay solid for your children

You are free to listen silently, type questions or speak up. Every dad leaves with a coping worksheet, links to parent support lines and a reminder that loving your kids loudly beats living in the same postcode.
