men & family

  • MANUP? (Zoom) Crockatt Road Ipswich, England, IP7 6RH United Kingdom (map)

Family can be the place you feel safest or the pressure cooker that blows your fuse. This men-only session is fully funded by MANUP?, so cost is never a barrier and you can join without giving your full name.

Therapist James Elliott MSc starts by unpacking the common flashpoints: parents who still treat you like a lad, partner conflicts over money or chores, and the guilt that comes from missing your children’s milestones. You will learn how unspoken expectations build resentment, why men often bottle things up to keep the peace and how that silence leaks out as anger or retreat.

The session then moves to practical tools:

  • Boundary phrases that let you say what you need without turning the kitchen table into a courtroom.

  • Calm-in-the-moment techniques you can use when kids are screaming, dinner is burning and your phone will not stop buzzing.

  • The guilt filter, a three-question check that stops you apologising for living your own life.

  • Family de-brief, a short weekly ritual that keeps small issues from turning into blow-ups.

Cameras can stay off, you are free to listen quietly or drop questions in the chat. You leave with a family-stress scorecard, three quick de-escalation moves and a list of support lines if home life ever tips from tough to unsafe.
