This is a private, non-public workshop delivered by MANUP?, led by founder Dan Somers, for NHS professionals at Cambridge University Hospitals.
The session brings together lived experience as both a patient and someone working closely with men’s mental health to highlight a simple but often overlooked reality.
Pressure builds quietly.
Communication breaks down.
And too often, emotional strain is dismissed as “part of the job”.
Through MANUP?, we have spoken to hundreds of NHS workers. Far too many admit they bottle things up, or feel they have no choice but to carry on regardless.
This workshop is not about telling people to talk more.
It is about understanding why people stop talking, and what needs to change so they are actually heard.
Using real experiences from both sides of the system, the session focuses on how better listening, clearer communication, and cultural awareness can improve outcomes for both staff and patients.
These sessions are not recorded or open to the public. They exist to create honest, direct conversations with those working on the front line.
We share these events to highlight the work happening behind the scenes as part of MANUP?’s ongoing mission to challenge stigma and improve how we listen to men.
