Why might a man experiencing abuse not tell anyone what is happening? Why can asking for help be so difficult? And what can services, professionals, friends and family do to make it easier for men to speak?
In this MANUP? Talk, Duncan Craig OBE will explore some of the barriers that can prevent male victims and survivors from disclosing abuse and seeking support.
Drawing on years of experience supporting male survivors, Duncan will look at the stigma, assumptions and practical barriers men can face, why some men may not recognise or describe what they are experiencing as abuse, and what happens when they do try to reach out for help.
The session will also look at what services, professionals and the people around men can do differently to create an environment where men feel able to talk and access support.
About Duncan Craig OBE
Duncan Craig OBE is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of We Are Survivors, the UK's largest specialist charity supporting male victims and survivors of sexual harm.
Since establishing the organisation in 2009, Duncan has played a significant role in shaping national policy and strategy around male victims and survivors. His work has included contributing to Government and NHS strategy, working with police forces and advising on portrayals of male sexual abuse in programmes including Coronation Street, EastEnders and Netflix's Baby Reindeer.
In 2020, Duncan received an OBE for his work supporting male survivors.
