Join us for an insightful online session hosted by Professor Denise Turner, exploring the often overlooked emotional impact on men when their children leave home—commonly known as the 'empty nest' experience.
In this thought-provoking talk, Professor Turner will share essential findings from her pilot study examining how parents, particularly men, experience the transition of their children moving to independent living. The session will highlight the emotional and practical challenges faced, such as isolation, loss of meaning, anxiety, and depression. Professor Turner will specifically address the unique pressures men encounter during these times, including societal expectations to remain stoic, limited available support, and the profound effects on single fathers or men who have faced significant loss or bereavement.
The talk aims to create an open and supportive environment for men to share difficult experiences and explore strategies for gaining mutual support. It will also consider the feelings of men who have never had children or a traditional family structure, broadening the discussion on how societal narratives and personal expectations shape men's mental health.
